Don Broco werfen ihren neuen Power-Track „Gumshield“ in den Ring

Don Broco – die Meister des Marketings – haben es schon wieder getan! Im Anschluss an den David Beckham-Takeover zu ihrer letzten Single „Manchester Super Reds No.1 Fan“ folgte nun ein weiterer Geniestreich der Band.

Denn der als “Fight Night” angekündigte Box-Showdown zwischen Frontmann Rob Damiani und britischem Schwergewichts-Profi Dave Allen entpuppte sich als fantastisches, taufrisches Musikvideo. “Gumshield” ist somit der zweite Vorgeschmack auf die langersehnte neue Platte.

Wie es dazu kam? Jetzt einmal von vorn: Die kreative Promo-Aktion begann mit der frohen Kunde, dass der muskelbepackte Damiani dem Team von Maree Boxing, einer britischen Management-Firma für professionelle Boxer, beigetreten sei. Es folgten Glückwünsche, Posts und Reposts von Größen der UK Boxing-Szene sowie Einblicke aus dem Trainingsalltag.

Seinen Höhepunkt erreichte die Geschichte dann mit einem “spontan” zusammen gekommenen Kampf des Leadsängers gegen Box-Legende Dave “White Rhino” Allen. Das Spektakel solle via Livestream übertragen werden – und siehe da: Ein brandneues Musikvideo!

Zum Hintergrund des amüsanten PR-Stunts erläuterte Damiani:

“Excited to share our new song & video for ‘Gumshield’! After Tom’s fake wedding for the last album and the Beckham fan account hacking on our Instagram before ‘Manchester Super Reds’ we wanted to bow out on one final prank,” shares Rob of the video concept. “After seeing all these YouTubers try their hand at boxing we thought it would be an interesting experiment to see if we could convince people I was deluded enough myself to fight a professional boxer.“

Inhaltlich handle der Song jedoch von den Tücken der Sozialen Medien sowie deren Auswirkungen auf unsere mentale Gesundheit.

„The song itself is about the anxiety that comes with posting online and the fear of resulting arguments so the divisive nature of my entrance to the sport personally hit all those triggers for me!“

Mit “Amazing Things” wird am 17. September 2021 das mittlerweile vierte Studioalbum der Kombo erscheinen. Dabei wird die Platte zwölf Titel fassen und unter Sharp Tone Records veröffentlicht.
