All That Remains: Phil Labonte vergleicht Metallica-Songs mit Nickelback

All That Remains-Frontmann Phil Labonte scheint sich zuletzt die Metallica-Alben „Load“ und „Reload“ aus den Jahren 1996 und 1997 ganz genau angehört zu haben. Denn wie der Musiker in einem neuen Interview im Podcast „Breaking The Ice“ erzählte, höre er hier starke Parallelen zur Musik von Nickelback.

So erzählte er den Hosts des Podcasts, den drei ehemaligen Radiomoderatoren Josh Dolan, Isaiah Moskowitz und Mike Hsu, dass alle Songs auf den beiden genannten Alben von Metallica auch den Nickelback-Scheiben Platz finden würden und umgekehrt.

Wie er betont sei das keinerlei Kritik, sondern lediglich eine Feststellung, dass musikalische Parallelen bestünden. Na… ob Metallica-Fans das wohl auch so sehen?

„I wanna point one thing out about NICKELBACK that I think a lot of people know but they don’t realize they know it. NICKELBACK records are METALLICA ‚Load‘ and ‚Reload‘ sonically. If you listen to NICKELBACK records and you listen to METALLICA ‚Load‘ and ‚Reload‘, almost any of the NICKELBACK songs could go on ‚Load‘ or ‚Reload‘, and almost any of the songs on ‚Load‘ or ‚Reload‘ could go on a NICKELBACK record. And just get James Hetfield to sing the stuff on a NICKELBACK record or vice versa, and you would not know the difference. And that is not a criticism — that is not a criticism.

[…] So me saying that is not me shitting on ‚Load‘ and ‚Reload‘ or NICKELBACK. I just think that they literally have so many similarities that most of the songs — maybe there’s a couple that wouldn’t work, but the vast majority of them would be interchangeable and you’d be okay with it if you had James Hetfield singing [the NICKELBACK material].“

Gut. Phil Labonte hat seinen Eindruck dargelegt; nun entscheiden wohl die Fans, ob sie ihm dabei zustimmen… oder eben nicht.

„Load“ und „Reload“ werden in der Karriere von Metallica oft als einschneidende Releases betracht, da der Sound der Kombo um Frontmann James Hetfield sich auf den beiden Longplayern von dem der sonstigen Veröffentlichungen unterscheidet.

Nickelback wiederum stehen in der Rock- und Metal-Community sehr häufig in der Kritik. Ihnen wird oft eine sehr generische, radiotaugliche Richtung vorgeworfen.

Phil Labonte scheint beide Bands nicht so schlecht zu finden, sonst würde er sich die Songs der beiden Kombos ja nicht so genau anhören.

Stand jetzt erreicht uns übrigens Anfang nächsten Jahres ein neues Album von All That Remains.

Zuletzt brachte die Kombo aus Springfield, Massachussetts 2018 ihre aktuelle Scheibe „Victim of the New Disease“ auf den Markt.
